Risk Hunting Occupational Safety and Health Simulation Success Story with VR System at Çimtaş Steel Facilities
Details of the "Risk Hunt" virtual reality project developed by VR Sistem for Çimtaş Steel, a leader in heavy industry, including the integration of a C#-based interactive simulation engine and the project's successful results in improving factory occupational safety and health (OSH) training efficiency and new personnel orientation processes.
Project Details
- Client / Sector: Çimtaş Steel / Heavy Industry (Steel Manufacturing & Engineering)
- Department: Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)
- Technologies Used: Meta Quest Virtual Reality Platform, interactive simulation engine developed with C# programming language. Visual
- Infrastructure: Photorealistic active field scanning and digital environment visualization technology. Concept: Interactive Risk Hunt Module.

Problem and Need
In high-risk production halls such as heavy industry and steel manufacturing, it is critical for newly hired personnel to quickly learn about potential hazards and operational errors in the field. The inadequacy of traditional theoretical training in developing practical reflexes and the risks created by directly placing new personnel in active production areas led Çimtaş Steel's Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) department to seek an innovative, safe, and highly interactive training model.
The Developed Solution and Çimtaş "Risk Hunt" Scenario
As VR Systems, we have transferred the working environment and ongoing operational processes in Çimtaş Steel's active production halls to the digital environment using photorealistic field visualization technologies. Thanks to the C#-based simulation infrastructure we developed, we integrated the following mechanics:
- Real-Time Environmental Interaction: The user is positioned in the exact center of the factory's live production hall in the virtual reality environment.
- Time-Limited Reflex Test (2-Minute Limit): The employee is responsible for identifying faulty practices, safety breaches, and potential risks in the field within a 2-minute time limit.
- Interaction and Scoring with VR Controller: The user earns points by targeting and selecting the risky situations they have identified using the Meta Quest controller. This mechanism directly measures the visual attention and hazard perception reflexes of the employees.
Achievements and Feedback
The developed Risk Hunt simulation is actively used in occupational safety and health (OSH) training within Çimtaş Steel. The following tangible gains have been achieved after its implementation:
- Accelerated New Employee Orientation:The adaptation period for newly hired employees to the factory's safety culture has been significantly shortened.
- Error Awareness:Participants: reflexes in identifying potential risks in the field have shown measurable improvement.
- OSH Manager Feedback: Highly positive feedback has been received from OSH specialists and managers who oversee the training processes regarding the simulation's memorability and its ability to increase employee participation.
